Becoming a Disciple
What does becoming a disciple mean?
Because of Gods intense love for us, he gave a way to know Him and experience all that we were created for through His Son, Jesus Christ. We believe Jesus walked this earth both as a man and as God. We don’t understand everything about Him but we do know that He was willing to do whatever it would take to free us from sin and experience God’s fullness.
Becoming a disciple of Jesus is the most freeing decision that you will ever make. It means that you are choosing to live the way of Jesus and allow Him to make you into a new creation. At Journey, we encourage you to make 3 primary commitments in your journey as a disciple.
3 Primary Commitments
1. DISCIPLES COMMIT TO LIVE LIKE JESUS.
But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. 1 John 2:5–6 (NLT)
2. DISCIPLES COMMIT TO LOVE LIKE JESUS.
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37–40 (ESV)
3. DISCIPLES COMMIT TO LEAVE BEHIND WHAT JESUS LEFT BEHIND, NEW DISCIPLES.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV)
